The University of Wellington maintains a real-time assessment of all the seismic activity in New Zealand, which is available on-line.

There is a simulation of the Kobe earthquake running in the Natural History Museum in London.

DYFI (Did You Feel It) by the USGS, lists seismic activity world wide. It also offers a screen where you can input seismic activity you experience. The only thing they miss is not asking a question about pet and livestock reactions prior to the event. In both of the tremblings I've experienced there was no unusual activity by the neighbors pets or horses.
