Consult a local Mentor.

"Consult a local Mentor", friend, instructor, welder, QA/QC person, someone who knows the answer to your question.

We don't.

If you want to talk QA/QC, I'll talk history and philosophy and practical aspects, but I don't know welding. If you want to do welding Quality, I suggest you become proficient in welding first. Nothing can substitute for actual experience when it comes to understanding the welding process and how to communicate with the folks who do the welding. The Quality folks need to be good communicators in order to help people understand where improvements can be made and why improvements are necessary.
