Whats This UK Telecoms Box For?

I think this is a internet / telecoms box maybe for optical fibre? It appeared installed just around the corner from where I live in the uk. Anyone know exactly what it is? Why such a good lock on it?

I dont have a driveway or car. I dont find the box unsightly in fact the opposite.. I like the industrial design.

Wendy Russell, 77, also had her gas pipe cut and garden wall damaged by BT contractors while they were digging up the pavement.

I doubt Wendy shares your enthusiasm for the boxes.

They had trouble with people cutting the blue ribbons on the earlier model, so they had to go with strong locks on the newer model.

It's the new camouflage for the TARDIS. That blue box style was so 1960, dontcha know!

It seems that we in the USA do not have a monopoly on abuse of private individual's rights by government and large corporations and that we, and you, have more in common than just being two nations separated by a common language.
