Bugatti Automobile

08/01/2014 3:06 PM

Way, way back, I read a biography about Etorre Bugatti and his automobiles. One thing I remember was, he used fitted bolts in his chassis. I wonder if this is still the case with the new Bugattis', or have modern practices found a better way to create tight, vibration proof connections.

No one has ever been able to explain how he did it. Scientists have found thread accuracies of up to 1/1000 of a cubit! Astounding for people of his time! Even more interesting is the fact that after driving the automobile for some distance, bugs are found smashed in the radiator! Bugs? Bug-atti? A coincidence? We don't think so. Nope, the only thing that can possibly explain the features of the ancient Bugatti are that man possessed a lost uber-technology or it was all done by slaves or aliens.

I don't know about fitted bolts, don't remember anyway. Soon after WW2, a neighbour bought a couple of old decrepit "Ducks back" Bugattis and refurbished them. I was going to high school at the time and I much preferred helping with the cars to doing homework.
