Engineering Today

08/06/2014 8:18 AM

I was looking for some data on percentage of Engineering graduates by country (have not found that yet) but discovered a couple of interesting articles/papers.

It would be interesting to correlate various engineering questions on CR4, by country or school someday.

For your reading pleasure...lots of graphs and numbers in the Engineering Statistics paper.

Ok, I skipped the read, and here I go:

The percentage of graduate engineers in any country will be :

100% of commited students with a genuine interest.

Ta daa !

The engineer graduate data in Australia is subject to political budget 'interference'.
'Freedom proposed in the May 2014 budget' will 'encourage' students to pay substantially more to achieve a degree. The measure is yet to get through the upper (Senate) house. The idea of a better qualified engineer graduate might pay more in taxes in a lifetime exercising their craft has been lost with the lawyers and accountants that parade as 'enlightened politicians', seeking the quick fix that might get the instant approval of the 'shock jocks' on radio & TV.

"15 May 2014 Engineers Australia Fact Sheet summary

Higher Education Arrangements in the 2014 Budget

Before the budget, the cost to students studying at university in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) was capped. This meant that it was no more expensive for students to study engineering at prestigious capital cities compared to regional universities. This cap was removed in the budget and this measure leaves universities free to set fees for their courses. In addition it was announced that the Commonwealth subsidy will be reduced. At this stage no further details are available until universities begin to exercise their new discretion and the new Commonwealth subsidy levels are announced."

Dear Tom

For this information in South Africa, go to the following website:

http://www.dhet.gov.za/SitePages/Org_Universities.aspx

Look for the enrollment folder halfway down the page. Look at table 2.12.

We use a database called HEMIS (Higher Education Management Information System) to capture and collate over time.
