Cellphone Comms Direct To DVR Without Using ADSL.

08/18/2014 12:02 AM

Application using USB 3G modem in area 1 to communicate with another 3G in area 2 ...is it possible to communicate without using an ADSL router?

Have remote CCTV DVR with a usb output for ADSL line...need to communicate directly with it by using my Cellphone but not through normal telephone line.

Your advice would be very much appreciated.

Hard wire it to a laptop, use your cellphone to access the laptop....

To help clarify it in your/my mind; "need to communicate directly with it by using my Cellphone but not through normal telephone line." Do you mean you want to go through ADSL telephone line? Do you mean not through cell network?

If you answer 'yes' see S.E. post.

You need another 3G modem in area 2. I assume that you will not want to have your own cellphone left permanently in this application, even if it is capable, so you will have to get a second device and almost certainly a second account with your cellphone provider.
3G modems will have a USB output, but as they are general purpose data devices it is not guaranteed that you could connect one directly to the DVR. You might need to attach it to a laptop/desktop running a video data acquisition program, and connect the monitor output to the DVR.

The DVR requires port forwarding, which is normally not allowed on 3G modems. I'm not sure where you are located, but it probably won't work. Best choice is to check with the carrier, and the DVR manufacturer. Is a static IP address available?
