Clearly, the "housing" was made from a material that was not appropriate for the environment it was used in.

Oxidization of the transmitter instrument is cause by moisture, environment temperature and humility of the environment. Most of the instrument are installed at a wrong location and places where they are extreme to the dirty environment. The only things that you can do is to clean all the oxidize and repaint it.

Try to make a housing to cover up all the transmitter and supply with dry compressor air or nitrogen to the housing. This will help to maintain the transmitter in good condition.

There are two things to do:

  1. Replace it with one that doesn't.
  2. Attend to the Process Containment problem that is producing conditions local to the instrument that oxidise the housing.

A lot of instrumentation manufacturers offer transmitter housing in different materials. There materials can be plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, steel that's been painted with enamel for weather resistance. If you know the environment in your area, you can choose which type of material will work for you.

Better yet, the manufacturer can actually help you choose. Just go to their website or send them an email and give them your problem. I'm sure they'll be happy to help. (",)

regards,

Vulcan
