Regarding Delta Delta Connection In Transformer

09/04/2014 12:10 AM

Why If there is bank of single phase transformers connected in delta-delta fashion and if one of the transformers is disabled then the supply can be continued with remaining two transformers with 58% efficiency. How this thing can be explain by phasor diagrame?

You will understand the phasor diagram so much better if you draw it yourself and post it here for us to comment on.

Efficiency it is the ratio between outgoing power to income power. In the case of one primary broken winding in Delta-Delta transformer connection the efficiency could stay as before .But, since in order to maintain the healthy winding current limited [not more than rated] one has to reduce the power to 2/3 [67%].If the rated current of transformer winding it is I the apparent power rated will be S3=3*VAB*I [if VAB=VBC=VCA]. If only 2 windings are healthy than the limited power will be S2=2*VAB*I [only 67%].

IMO no need to show a phasor diagram [this depends on connection type-[Dd0,Dd2,Dd4,6,8,10- according to IEC 60076-1 I think].
