09/08/2014 3:37 AM

Where can I find the dimensions and tolerances of a NEMA motor frame 254/6T shaft?

Probably the manufacturer's web site, which you don't share.

Last resort: Pick up the phone and call them!

You can get it free from the horse's mouth - you do have to register, but it's free.

Thanks, but it only gives dimensions, no tolerances. Refers to MG 1, 4.9 for tolerances but I cannot find it anywhere on the website.

The drawings in the list linked in #1 are toleranced.

The shaft and keyway is not toleranced. Just says standard NEMA tolerance.

That's the tolerances on the keyway, not the shaft. You probably need to purchase the full standard - the freebie is condensed. Most of the time, we are installing sheaves, sprockets, couplings, etc. and depend on the manufacturer to ensure the tolerance is proper.

I suspect it is +0.000/-0.001 as in EASA AR100-2010.

This document has the shaft tolerances buried inside somewhere:

That's also a condensed version. As noted in it "This is a condensation of the standards on motors included in NEMA Standards Publication Motors and Generators, MG 1-2006. . . The numbers placed at the end of many of the paragraphs in this condensation (e.g. MG 1 Part 6) refer to the complete standard in MG 1."

I was just looking for keyway standards and I came across this.

for

  • NEMA Standard thru 6.500 DIA
  • Navy MIL-M-17060E(SH.) thru 3.250 DIA

This is off a Baldors site.

Baldor has always been a good site since the 90's. With the exception of the hiccup with the Dodge/Reliance partnership... which was a mess.
