Feed Water Control Station DP Transmitter Range

09/17/2014 5:08 AM

Hi everybody.

I have 2 Nos of 100 %( W + S) & 1 No of 30% control valves who are Installed at FCS ( feed water control Station ) at the outlet of BFP ( Boiler Feed Pump). The Static pressure of 100 % & 30% Control Valve is 181 bar , and the Max DP sizing of Control Valve as per CV supplier is 15 Bar.

Question :

The DPT (Differential Press transmitter) to be Installed across the FCS for Scoop Control of BFP , should be of what range ? ,

do I need to consider Static Pressure and Install a 200 Barg DPT or the Max DP sizing values are enough( to decide for 20 Bar DPT).

Those who have installed or has experience of Installing or engineering of such DPT( Differential Press transmitter) across FCS ..please share your experience explaining why they don;t recommend 200 Barg DPT .. as such DPT's are not available with 0.02 % accuracy.

There should be the following additional documents:

  • Process Flow Diagram, with flows and pressures thereon
  • Piping Schedule, with flows and pressures thereon
  • Instrument Schedule, with ranges thereon
  • Control Philosophy, detailing how the plant should operate
  • HazOp Study Report, reviewing and improving upon the original design.

Obtain these documents for the plant, for they will answer most of the questions. Review installations on similar plants elsewhere, for they will answer the remainder.

The wide range DPT requirement is from Plant operation people however their requirement is against the General/Standard practice followed in similar plants for years.

I need some more examples of their kind to approve for new range of DPT.
