09/17/2014 2:32 PM

Hello all, My company has several bottles of isopropanol to dispose of. they look to be about a liter each and there are many. At least a few gallons. Hoping someone will be interested and can make use of it.

Combustion solves many problems. Is there a fuel oil tank nearby?

We use it as an all-purpose industrial cleaner, why don't you?

There, kills two birds with one stone.

I would use it as fuel or as a fuel additive.....I would just add a liter to my gas tank every time I filled up...It also works well as a anti-bacterial agent mixed with water and sprayed as a fine mist....60-80% isopropanol to water mix....I use this all the time around the house...

Good contact cleaner, except that you must dry well the parts prior to energizing.

Excellent flux remover in PCBs.

Great tar remover from your good old pipe.

Very good parts degreaser.

It's a pity I can't get it, I'm in another country.

Take it home and then e-bay it !

James,

This is a joke, right?

This is a worldwide forum. Not knowing where you are, makes it impossible to offer any coherent suggestions.

Put it in a large tub, outside, and burn it or let it evaporate.

Shipping flammable material is impossible.

What is the dilution %?

You're not going to get much help here.

Is it 100% or the usual 70% sold in drug stores and super markets?

Put it in a baking pan, about half full, and place it outdoors preferably in an area where there are no prying eyes. More effective if left in the sun. Come back tomorrow and refill the pan. Not my official environmentalist answer but many do it this way more than the environmentalist way. Works great also for gasoline, especially gas with dirt or water in it. Keep all sources of ignition away!!!!!

Isopropanol is also about the best thing for removing Permatex, the sealant, (especially #2) from your hands and tools after working with it. Permatex is a very good sealant and gasket substitute but extremely hard to remove all of it from you and your skin. It is the least detrimental to the skin and lungs. Other products will work better but with many undesirable risks.

Good Luck, Old Salt

"Not my official environmentalist answer", but the stark reality of what happens as soon as one removes the lid from a container of IPA. Or, any other common solvent.

They evaporate. No matter how they are used. Put IPA on a cotton ball and clean a mirror. Poof, it evaporates. As it will do in the pan.

If you buy a pint of IPA, it will end up in the atmosphere.

James,

This is an international forum. The group has no idea where, on the planet, your city is.

That was kinda the point.

Cheers.
