Yahoo E-mail - Erasing Old E-mail Addresses

09/23/2014 10:09 AM

When I log on to yahoo.com e-mail, it always brings up a list of old e-mail address used years ago and misspelled versions of my current e-mail address that I entered in error at one time. Does anyone know how to erase these and just leave my current one?

No, but it is irrelevant, Boss. E-mail is low priority communication and its cost and its value are closely related: if it were urgent or valuable, the other party would use the telephone or another method of communication instead.

Just ignore the old addresses and be happy.

What a bizarre answer. I shall have to report you to Detective Inspector Murdoch - so there. Now get back to looking for that missing murder weapon!

Gladly. When I find it, I surely won't be able to e-mail it. What a crap service...

Almost as bad as MS (spits on floor) Outlook Office... we recently changed server and E-mail addresses got changed.
It's almost impossible to find an actual address once it has been given a name linked to it. Like "My Boss" comes up instead of Fred@myworkplace.co.uk

So you can't change it... and end up typing the whole address or getting Email bounced back... because it's now Fred.Smith@myworkplace.co.uk

Even if you look at the properties of a message it gives you everything except the actual E-mail address .
A triumph of presentation over usefulness and absolute crock of $hite.

When will they stop messing up perfectly good software and complicating it to the point of uselessness?

Agree completely. Yet another example of some new software geek joining a company and eager to stamp his/her authority by changing everything - and never for the better.

I used to send complaining e-mails to yahoo after these idiotic changes, but of course they never respond or even acknowledge receipt. A pointless exercise. I left mail.com years ago for the same reasons. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

I'm confused, I assume you are using a browser to access web email. If that is the case, go in and delete cookies. If you are using a browser that lets you delete cookies from a list I suggest that route, especially if your logins have saved passwords that auto fill them in.

If this is OE, change to Thunderbird email app.

If you are not the admin of the outlook company address book you can't change it. It's up to the administrator to make those changes. It should have been done when the server was changed. If like here it's on the bottom of the list of priorities or they can't/ don't want to spend the time to figure out how. We still have names of people that have been gone 5 years or better in it.

It is quite possible to introduce an out-of-office-autoreply on the address saying words to the effect of "This e-mail account is now closed and messages to it are not being read.". That leavers don't do it is a mystery.

Why would leavers do this? They take their contacts with them. Its the company that should invest in a message like this to avoid missing serious business on the leavers part.

My old e-mail adress still sucks up e-mails with no response to the sender.

And? All that shows is #1 is along the right lines. E-mail has had its day as a collaborative business tool: <...a pointless exercise...>. Individuals tend to use it in cover-my-ar$e-mode more than anything else, particularly in the public sector here.

I am also experiencing difficulties with attachments which Outlook encodes and are being interpreted as containing a virus

Yeah, I tried to send some assembler files to my home E-mail address so I could work on 'em. It didn't like that at all!

Try to delete it when it pops up. Thats how it works in Outlook.

Deleting the form history in the browser is another way.

Today is one of those days when the old and current e-mail addresses does not show at all. Seems to happen when yahoo puts a moving advert on the sign-in page. Another irritating feature of the internet, or perhaps just yahoo.

Assuming you are using Internet Explorer to access your Yahoo! Mail, try this:

Removing Auto-Fill Options in Internet Explorer

In the Internet Explorer browser, all you need to do is:

  1. Double-click in the text field so the drop-down box of auto-fill options appears.
  2. Hold your mouse over the option that you want to remove from auto-fill so that it's highlighted. Don't click on it.
  3. Press your delete key. The option should be deleted from your auto-fill.

The problem is not Yahoo! Mail, it's your browsers "auto-fill" feature that has these bad entries. At least that's the way I read the O.P.

If I read that wrong, please give a bit more detail.

Tom D.
