Help Finding NTE Quick Cross

09/28/2014 12:26 AM

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of quick cross. NTE in their infinite wisdom no longer provides Quick cross on desk or for download, instead they offer a online version which is slower to use. Any tips leading to where I can download the old version would be greatly appreciated. Also If you happen to have a desk I have a couple of options for sending and receiving large files.

Would greatly appreciate any help offered.

What you are missing is more information, a little more information might be helpful. The company I am involved with cannot locate their old NTE desk. I have made numerous attempts to get a copy of quick cross from NTE. www.nteinc.com/. They simply replied that they no longer offer the free software, however you could cross reference your NTE products online.

Using their online service was not acceptable to my client [not only was it slower, but it also lacked some of the ability to cross reference older parts to what they have in stock]

As far as the number of links the five are so I tried lead back to the NTE registration page. We have already tried to get an update or the software or register as a new user with the same answer. The disk are no longer available. Not being one to give up easily I called NTE after 1/2 hour run around in the never ending automated phone system, I was finally able to get to one of their execs. Her answer was basically it was above her pay grade or she would release the software right now [already had a large number of dissatisfied customers].

So I sure would appreciate any help I can get in locating the software. I should add that I've basically painted myself into a corner. Besides some desperately needed repairs to their routers, switches and chasing some short of cat five cable I've also built two computers for them. The lack of quick cross was something that I wish I had not got involved with.

I tested a couple of ideas on a test system here are home. By copying their entire 40 GB hard drive to a partition in the new machine and placing a shortcut on the desktop leading back too quick cross in the old hard drive it worked perfectly.

On the second machine I got a little cocky and just copied quick cross from the old hard drive, place it on a separate partition and then did the desktop shortcut to wear the program is. The program still works however I'm using almost 40% of my CPU capacity idling. Needless to say I would like to correct this problem in the most efficient way. Which would be to have the original software. I did learn something which is you can't always keep the customer happy and meddling in something that was not your problem generally leads to it becoming your problem.

You might have more luck if you Google "NTE Quick Cross download". As I write, I am downloading version 11 from <http://www.industrialelectronics.biz/nte/quickx.html>

Private Message me with your e-mail in it. I have a copy of it. If not the original download file I can put enough of my installation together to get you going although I think I have the original.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Do a google search for qc15setup.exe

I just got a copy from

http://www.ie.itcr.ac.cr/rsoto/NTE%20Quickcross/

When you close it down it says it's over two years old, so I tried looking for qc16setup.exe, but didn't find anything.

Never ever trust NTE I am in the repair business and have spent way to many hours

with repairs because the replacement part was not a replacement.

I remember a TV that needed a fast switching diode in a 25 volt circuit 25ma.

The cross was a 1 amp diode and it would last about 20 seconds and short.

After blowing 3 of them I wasted lots of time looking for why only to find it was not a fast switching part. Transistors for high frequency were not even close.

When it comes to IC'S I had no problem but anything else watch out.

I appreciate all the input, I will try a couple of the links suggested. It was just my luck that the one I tried lead to a dead end, an filled my computer with spyware. I will keep you posted (no pun intended) as to my results. Thanks again

John
