The purpose of a heavy duty diesel generator is to generate heavy duty electricity.

The second question actually could make sense, if answered negatively.

1. The Heavy duty D.G. used only for the higher load capacity.

2. Step timing control for wat whether its there in AVR or which part of D.G.

Thanks,

Prabakar

I think the HD(heavy duty) diesel generators are used for running high loads continuously for long duration

The step time control of diesel engine, is to consecutively switch on the loads connected to the diesel generator in order to prevent from under voltage fault to be detected on the terminals of the generator in case all the loads are switched on at the same time.

Hi,

but the diesel generators are tested at factory to take the load corresponding to their rating in a single step - is not it?

I have never been in testing a huge generators, but i don't think they will switch on the load in one step.

Take for example 1MVA generator if you are going to put the load in one step i believe you will under speed, overcurrent, and undervoltage faults which will get the genset off.

I have only heard them in concert with Heavy Metal. The step timing synchronizes the back up with main attraction.

I presumed you will be the new owner of this genset, because in an engineer world for diesel genset there is no such thing as heavy duty , you have only continous rating, prime duty rating and standby rating. As I see it some year 7 educated salemans try to convince you and you did not bring your consultant along to verified. And also what is this statement they mention to you step timing control! ( does not exist in genset terminology) is it transient performance?

As said above, these are non-standard terminologies, however,

hisham.i's explanation does ring true, imho
