Circular Key Stress Concentration Factor

11/26/2014 5:10 PM

Hi

I didnt find any information about circular key seat stress concentration factor.

All information about only standard keyseats.

Anyone does know something about circular keyseat ?

There is description of it

Pin or Circular Keys: Here a circular pin is used in the place of a key. The shaft and the hub both posses a semicircular hole in them to accommodate the Pin key. The advantage of this type of key is that the stress concentration induced due to the key is significantly much less.

There is no information about Kt and Kts values.

when i want to use standard Kt and Kts table for keyseat, r/d ratio only goes to 0.08 , after this value there is no curve for kt or kts.

If i use a pin key which is diameter 6 and shaft diameter 16 mm

r/d is 3/16 = 0.1875

Doesn't that suggest that such a key, were it to be made, is too small to be useful? All you need to do, is select a larger one.

As many times answers do not match neither the question nor the problem basics.

If you have a look at the curves you could see that the higher the radius ratio the lower the stress concentration. In fact according to those curves the K-values for the ratio given by OP are less the values for ratio 0.08! So that in lack of further infos those values can be used. The concentration of stresses being a continuous phenomenon it is possible to use several values and define a 3rd order polynomial through them and extrapolate up to 0.18... in order to have a value for stress estimations.

Your suggestion to take a BIGGER pin pushes the working point even further right out of the graph range.

Do you agree Mildred ?

I am at a loss why any rational person would vote this off topic.

I found a full research result BUT it is in German!

If you send by the private link you e-mail address I can send it to you. It gives all indications about how to compute every detail and not only for 1 pin.
