1. Make sure you have the most up-to-date version of FireFox.

2. Make sure that you have Block Pop-Ups selected in your Preferences under Content of the preference pane.

If that doesn't work I don't know what to tell you except you might have some adware lurking in your system creating mayhem.

What you describe, is NOT pop-ups so go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General and unmark the "Check my spelling as I type" or similar option, depending on your firefox version and language. If this doesn't work, start firefox in safe mode and disable all plugins, then enable one by one to find the crappy one. S.M.

Try https//adblockplus.org for their adblock plus and adblock plus popup addon. I have not used these since I'm not having much trouble with ads popping up.

Now the issue is quite clear. You downloaded censor software, software to modify video and what else.

This probably came with a load of Add-Ware, Mal-Ware and Viruses of all sorts.

I think you need to clean your system big times.

Sorry but having unsolicited pop ups is a sign for a infected system.

Check your installed program list for anything you did not want.

But better is to setup the system new. You really don't know what came with the last installs.

Good luck!

I think that you hit the nail right on the head with your comments.

I am assuming that the OP has quality antivirus software running all the time, properly updated as a first given, not using some crap free version....none of which are any good. Yearly tests in German Computer mags state this time and time again.

I had a recent spate of Malware infections on my PCs a few weeks ago, caused, it seems in my case (tried it 3 times, each time with the same result! And their support could not help!) by "Spybot S&D.

Which at least the latest version is FULL of malware....LEAVE IT WELL ALONE, OR AT LEAST DO NOT UPDATE TO THE LATEST VERSION!!!! I have used it for some years and it worked fine, but not anymore!!

I re-downloaded it 3 times as well, and installed it 3 times, still crap.

So after reading a bit on the web, (I was annoyed that my antivirus software mostly ignored Malware, though it is top for antivirus), I downloaded and tried "Malwarebytes Anti Malware", which has a free test period.

After running it two or 3 times, it found dozens of Malware infections and cleaned them all out, including some Rootkit infections. Once was not enough.

So I bought the premium version for 3 PCs (less than US$30 if I remember correctly) and since then my PCs running faster and no more annoying popups/programs/interruptions/whatever....it also runs faster!!!

It also prevents further infections when correctly set up.

I am sure there are other good programs to clean out Malware, but I haven't tried them personally so I cannot truly compare....Maybe someone here has tried and compared more of them....

By the way, the M.W.B.A.M. free version seems to work as well as the full version in the test period.

So I now let it run when I am in bed and since then it not only prevents infections (if correctly set up in "Settings"), but it has not found anymore either, so I am very happy that I am fully protected....

I have no financial interest in the software, other than I paid for it in the same way as you can......and I am happy!

Just out of interest, does the OP have a copy of "Spybot S&D" on his PC? That might explain a lot.....be warned!! It is a Trojan itself.....I think my problem version was V2.4 if I remember correctly....

Even if it is not a Trojan itself, it still did not prevent the Malware, which is just as bad.....

Hi

Having just removed 348 instances of malware from my daughters laptop I can heartily recommend Malwarebytes as one of the best methods of cleaning out unwanted PUP software and viruses. I did it all for free but thought it was that good I registered and bought it covering 3 machines at about £5 each. She had software redirecting her browser to all sorts of rubbish and google wasn't google. Even gets into system restore. If you can you should run it in safe mode after downloading for best results.

No picture.

It probably won't be readable anyway.

What software did you use?

You need to be more clear and very exact if you want good help....

Easy fix for this problem. 1. Purchase 2 separate computers, one for doing serious work that is not connected to the internet and one that is connected to the internet for doing not serious work. 2. As soon as you purchase the the computers, purchase an antivirus program and install it first, before anything else. 3. Establish an administrator password, this way no one can use your computer to go to the internet without your approval. 4. How to fix the computer you presently have : separate and categorize each of the programs, software and files that you have stored on your hard drive, you can do this by using a journal book and by making notations using a pen or pencil, viruses and malware cannot infect a book with paper sheets. Decide which programs you need/want and those you don't really need/want. Delete all unwanted programs from your computer, get a separate storage device and download the remaining files, programs etc into it ( remember that this separate device will now be corrupted with programs that have viruses and malware.) After you delete all of the unwanted programs that did not come with your computer when you originally purchased it and you still get unwanted pop ups showing, then this means that the hard drive is corrupted too and you probally won't be able to remove them. Remember the Disney movie TRON, in that movie, tron was a piece of malware written as a piece of code, the master computer searched everywhere but could not delete him, tron kept reinventing himself. Think of this as another way, I am a computer hacker, my job is to write code that can hide in a program and can be written as part of a program, in order for the program to operate the the code must be active, or I have a house with two doors and a dozen windows, when you open the door, I open half of the windows, every time you close one of the windows, I open another one, you could chase me around the house all day and never get any of the windows closed.
