Is there an 'in-joke' that I have missed ?

On the general topic, a year or two back somebody posted a link to some amazing material. It was a sort of gel padding that could be used as body armour. If memory serves, there was even a video to show how well it worked. Hammer blow right to the leg and no damage ! This is not some snide metaphor, it was the ultimate in shock absorbing materials. Does it ring any bells (poor choice of words). One of those 'read it on CR4' gems.

So, how was Thanksgiving weekend ? I'm starting to think Etherville needs one .

No joke.Fred is just a big fan of graphene so I thought I'd save him the trouble of posting.

It reminds me of Kevlar 30 years when it was causing quite a stir.I had a boat made from Kevlar and it was light, string and fast.

Thanksgiving was good, thanks. We ate all the turkey, stuffing, potatoes and the rest that we could hold. Still have a bunch in the fridge.

It's a lot of work for the wife, though.

Yes, you could be thankful for getting rid of all the rif raff years ago. I fear that Native Americans will never be thankful for all us illegal immigrants who sneaked ashore and stole their land.

It looks like they have a way to go before it will be effective against real bullets. The fact that energy waves travel though it 3 times faster that steel will mean that "...graphene material well away from the impact site can help quickly absorb and then dissipate the energy of a projectile,...". I wonder what distance "well away" is!?!?

It will be an interesting development to watch, and I'm sure we can count on Fredski to do that!

The sad thing is that we need such stuf.

On a point of technicality, medeival wariors wore silk undergarments. An arrow gets spinned into the bibre. Monsieur le shat is the expert on this one. If you don't know of Del's bloggiing on the topic you need to check it out. I am not sucking up, but it's pretty good.

Watched a doc on old tech on Netflix...horse mounted (Japanese ) warriors wore a cape type garment that arrows were captured in the billowing fabric....the distance from the skin seemed (was)critical to its successful operation...had nothing to do with their undergarments.

As for protection of carpet from humor, there seems to be a lot of products for incontinence advertised on TV, those in need should be able to stock up at the local supermarket.

You're probablt correct, but wearing some quality lingeries gives a chap so much more confidence.

Febreze can work wonders, thou Bicarb of Soda is pretty much as good. Given the number of laughd I get on CR4 it may be better to just go for lino and a mop .

The silicon spheres were fired at about at 3,000 meters per second, about a third of the speed of a typical rifle bullet.
Something is wrong here. It's either "300 m/s" or it's "about 3 times the speed of a typical rifle bullet". A typical rifle bullet muzzle velocity is on the order of 1000 m/s.

Technology articles are not actually writen by the researchers, they go thru editing by someone with better language skills (and often that's all they've got).

it still looks early in development but it sounds consistent with graphene's amazing properties.maybe they can transfer the bullets energy to charge your cell phone

It won't stop CR4 readers popping at each other, though.

Well, for that we'd need some sort of 'snark-proof vest.'

Oh, wait, I think they've already designed something like that, they call it a 'sense of humour,' spelled with or without the U, although it's kind of hard to pronounce as 'hmour.'

Remember, don't take me too seriously. I never take myself seriously, I know where I've been.
