11/11/2014 3:25 AM

Dear all:

The concept of captioned, is it similar to core and outrigger in buildings?

Thank you all in advance for your input.

Cable-stayed bridges are another type that might fit the description of self-anchored.

No

The load of a cable stayed bridge is supported by the extension of the cables and the compression of the roadway beams, and the tower, a triangle. The floors of a core building are supported by being connected to the core on one end, similar to a cantilever, an "L" shape. The bridge is structurally composed of triangles. The building is composed of straight lines connected structurally on one end only.

The bridge is an "A" shaped object with the same forces as a sailboat boom crane ( mast = tower, halyard = suspension cables, boom = roadway beams). The building is similar to a Christmas tree where the tree trunk is the core and the branches are the floors.

Good Luck, Old Salt
