Stop The Presses

Higgs isn't, yet?

Can it be?????????????????

Higgs Boson May Not Have Been Discovered After All; Was It A 'Techni-Higgs ...

So, now what do we do?

Just sayin"

Yet another particle

The main question on the LHC is would collision simulates big bang event in the first place. What if particles they found out from the start are different particles than those from the big bang scene.

It will not be even close.

It is simply an alternate proposal of what may have been discovered. There really is nothing to back up the claim yet.

But, is there anything to back up the original claim to have discovered the god...m particle in the first place, either?

Truth be known, the only thing they really discovered was the means of lucrative grants for their funding

Well, my understanding is that the discovered particle fits right in with the Stand Model's (SM's) predicted energy for the Higgs (125 GeV).

Then someone came along and said if we morph the SM to something else (i.e., Technicolor) and invent Techni-quarks we can't directly claim the 125 GeV particle is directly predicted by the Technicolor theory - BUT the theory does not rule it out, either...

In my view that tells me that the Technicolor claim is a little weaker than the claim for the particle being a SM Higgs. In addition to that, the Higgs discovery now accounts for all the possible masses as per the SM, which means there are no more fundamental particles to discover. [p} In a nutshell, the Higgs put the bow on the Standard Model and neatly tied everything up. That is strong evidence in itself that backs up that the discovered particle is indeed the Higgs.

The Technicolor model will just have to wait a little longer until the Large Hadron Collider comes back on line and higher energy work is done to peel back the onion of the electro-weak force. The hope is that this work will either give Technicolor a reprieve or kill the theory.

Statistically, the odds favor the Standard Model, but that does not rule out the possibility of Technicolor, just gives it a lower ranking probability of being correct.

I think the biggest discovery here is that researchers found a way to keep their grant money coming!

"Dear National Science Foundation and the European Organization for Nuclear Research,

Turns out, that might not have been the Higgs Particle after all.

More research is needed.

Please send another 13.25 billion dollars.

Warmest regards,

CERN Physicists"

Yeah, they should do what the U.S. did: stop funding fundamental research and spend that money instead on weapons and wars.

The didn't spend that money on weapons and wars, they spent it on a totally pointless space station. One that the US can't even visit now without hitching a ride from the Rooskies. Thank you, Bill Clinton.

Not only spent on a useless space station, but one that robbed other, far more worthy space probes of their funding. The ISS was nothing more than PR job from an agency that lost its rudder - and compass.

.... Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong ....

Now, if they can get the Hadron Collider to accelerate as fast as our government is spending our money, they just might really find something they can wrap their hands around. Til then, those floating in that tin can so far above will continue to wear shirts emblazoned with;

Can you hear me Major Tom?
