CE Compliant LED's

01/07/2015 2:40 PM

We're doing a project in France so all of our electronics have to be CE Compliant. We're going to have pilot lights with flex light pipes to conform with our cabinets and it's turning into a pain. There are a ton of LED's but finding ones that are compliant is like finding a needle in a haystack. Some of our cabinets are in high rad and heavy magnetic fields so they will be heavily shielded, thus the light pipes....Any ideas?

Thanks,

At one time, self certification was an option.

Go to Digikey.com; Type LEDs in the SEARCH box top right: hit CR

Select one of the categories below.

I I selected Optics - LEDs - Light Pipes

Then click in the RoHS compliant box near the left, and, the apply filters button.

Cuts your choice down from 1301 to 1291.

Use the other selection criteria at the top of the page to narrow your selection.

Light Pipes

Thanks a lot,

I had looked at Digikey before but hadn't drilled down enough to find them. I ended up going with the APEM LED's. Their site didn't actually SAY that they were CE compliant initially, but at least they mentioned it and said to contact the factory if they were marked..... Anyway, thanks

I believe from deep memory and a recent comment elsewhere that CE marking applies to systems or mechanisms that can be put to use. An LED on it's own can do nothing so cannot constitute a system etc. so does not need to be marked, in the same way a nut or bolt would not be marked. Only when the whole assembly is complete and all the applicable standards have been met, would the finished system be CE marked.

Initially I thought that also, then I thought so low a voltage was the reason I couldn't find them anywhere. But according to CELMA (European Light Companies Federation) they fell under the regs in 2009. The project is in France and an international project at that and creates a whole new area off hoops to jump through.
