Motor HP, Full Load Current and Speed

01/09/2015 10:28 AM

Which factors are the most appropriate in reference to determining motor specifications:

1) HP

2) Full Load Current (FLA)

3) Speed

Possible Answers: 1,2,3 or all of the above

Please explain why.

more clueless questions most people that buy a motor ask for HP, voltage, direction and shaft size, then frame

How are we be able to help in your exam dude?Seems like your stuck in that number.

All of the above, but it's not limited to those.

You still need to consider lots of things, like environment (IP rating), Supply type (could be VF drive or with a soft start), RPM, winding coil type (NEMA rating), weight, volume and so on.

Application and environment dictates it.

The torque-speed relationship of the mechanical load should be your first consideration, Murphy.

None of your factors. The most important thing to know about a motor is what and how it will move something. Then one must understand basic Newtonian Physics to understand what that means. Now open your textbook and educate yourself.

This is just a sales promotion from a company that sells electric motor test equipment

Do you specify motors at your company? If so, what types of motors are you manufacturing?

Would you hire the OP to sell anything for you?

Even salesmen usually have some clue.

What does "determine motor specifications" mean? What is the context? Does it mean "How do I specify a motor for a given application?" or does it mean "How do I understand what this motor is capable of and how I protect it?"

Just check 1] price list of any company 2] specification as per the motor is required. e.g. IS 325 standard motor. You get your answer.

Now see How specs for any motors are referred.

There are so many factors that define specs for any motor, here I am not referring any other specs that covers other parameters related to a particular type of motor. like type of enclosure, protection, insulation, winding wires etc.

This is so far as induction motors are concerned.

You opt for other type check the same items. You will find the answer.

Say stepper motor Holding torque, NEMA frame or flange [generally square] dimension are taken in reference. All other parameters are mentioned along with that.

A motor is specified by its manufacturer depending on his design

The manufacturer specify the following technical parameters

Voltage, Current , KW/HP, RPM ,Frame Size , Power Factor etc and not asper your puzzle

Give the requirement to the manufacturer ,they will provide you the answer.

In addition to my earlier comment-

In same frame size different Power ratings, watts/ Hp can be designed.

A power rating can be given in different frame sizes.

Voltage, torque, frequency, number of poles, mounting type , cooling type, Insulation, protection , duty cycle, type of enclosure, Type of starting condition, ambient temperature, altitude, are few important factors that may decide motor configuration.

so limiting this discussion is uninformative. Whatever may be the purpose of Q it may be a useful data for some other visitors.
