120V Infinity Switch to Control Hot Pad

01/18/2015 2:16 PM

I'm wondering if I can use a 120v infinity switch to control my hot pad ?

I would like to see how it looks on a scope.

Thanks

Compare the wattage rating of the switch with that of the hot pad. They may need to match, or at least be fairly close.

(By coincidence, tomorrow I am replacing such a switch on my stove.)

"I would like to see how it looks on a scope."

Stick to putting it on your heating pad.

If you put it on your scope, use tape, and don't try to hook it up.

Hey Jerr,

Why do you care about seeing it on a "scope"? Perhaps you are wondering how this device operates? If so, it is very simple. It uses a thermostatic switch to open and close the switch at various rates (duty cycle) so that it approximates the equivalent amount of energy needed to match the setting. That is to say that if you want a 10% heat level, then the switch turns full power on for 10% of the time and leaves it off 90% of the time. During that 10% time, the power is allowed to operate at full rated current.

If that is what you wanted, how about a Good Answer mark for me. Thanks.
