What Is This?

01/18/2015 11:47 AM

What is its function? A normal application would use 4 of them per vehicle. The round object, top left is 7/8" diameter.

Depends upon the make of the car but it looks like the actuator that moves the door locking button up and down. It's too small to be the window motor.

Would that not more than likely be a solenoid for the lock buttons?

I'll go for that. External mirror tilt and swivel adjuster motors. Motor size dictates it's either that or beam height adjusters. But since hint is about four... S.M.

Probably the engine from a Cavalier.

Did you find it lying dead on the road?

if that is the engine from a Cavalier found dead at the side of the road, then what is this also found dead at the side of the road?

Cavalier nowhere to be found.

No. THESE are my hearing aids.

North of 60 got it right. Mirror adjuster motors, two per mirror. I had to replace one of my mirrors, so I dissected the corpse.

BTW, I didn't find any bundles of cash when I took off the door panel, but the job went surprisingly quickly and easily.

An 18V battery really makes this baby scream.

We leave her the 5th of March for our annual "bake on the beach", 3 full weeks on the beach in the DR, a full month out of town.

What this picture shows was one of my nightmares in a previous job. Moulding those gears and housings to survive the temperature extremes was a real challenge.

By the way, that motor was made 20 March 1999.

You might note the other motor probably has a green worm drive that is opposite hand to the one shown depending on model and vehicle make (Blue Oval or GM??)
