What dictates the size of an atom? I saw representaion of metal oxides, oxygen having greater size than metal. I thought about atomic radii tells us the size of an atom but not.

The size is determined by the electron shells. The oxygen atom has a greater affinity for attracting electrons than metal atoms because it needs only 2 more to complete its outer shell. Metals usually have only 1 or 2 electrons in the outer shell and these electrons are weakly held, so these electrons join the oxygen. Therefore the oxygen atoms are "bigger".
The size of the nucleus doesn't affect it directly as the atomic dia is ~ 100000 x nuclear dia.
The number of protons affects it indirectly as it determines the number of electrons.
