I believe that ICE and EV are for two different uses. The EV for short around town commutes, and the ICE for long distance use, where recharge time can not be accommodated.
Every time I see this discussion come up, this issue of short distance and long recharge time of EVs gets beaten up. But the thoughts always are that only one vehicle is to be owned. Unless you use mass transit for long distance (with current foreseeable battery technologies), you will need to own 2 autos, assuming your carbon emission is regulated, that requires owning an EV.
..."50-kW fast chargers can recharge an EV battery 80 percent of its capacity in about 20 minutes, or about 10 minutes faster than the 24-kW chargers."...
Probably time for a good sit down meal....or to stretch your legs, visit the head, catch up on your texting.....

I don't see it as too much of a problem as it takes almost 20 Min's to fuel up now as most pumps don't always work for receipts, (their too lazy to put in the paper) and or you invariably go in to get a pop or snack. Just take it as a simple rest-break in your day. But I do agree as the technology is today I will own two cars one for local and one for out of town road driving. Maybe that will bring back the days of real road cars that were fun to drive and maybe a autobahn system for interstate traffic like in Germany. Now that system rocks and Darwin weeds out the weak drivers quickly they learn to drive in the right lane, and stay out of the way of the serious drivers that are capable of the speeds available to them.
