Test on 1 phase transformer

07/10/2007 11:22 AM

If I energized the secondary side of a 1 phase transformer at the time of open ckt test instead of primary, and left open what will happen? Can I get the same result when energized from primary.

Of course you will.

The primary and secondary windings are usually interchangable names...

To get more output from a sig gen at low frequencies I've quite often just dug out a small mains transformer and put the sig gen into the secondary to get a couple of hudred volts on the primary.

The results will be the same if the Transformer is 1:1 ratio.Otherwise it depands upon the turns ratio of Transformer.

No problem but.....

be sure that when you energize the secondary that you observe the rated voltage and current rating's for that winding.
