DownloadHelper Not Working in Latest Firefox

02/27/2015 9:50 PM

DownloadHelper is a application for browsers that downloads a playing movie and saves it to your hard disk and it worked fine until Firefox updated.

I've tried removing and reinstalling it with the latest version and although the symbol animates and asks for a directory, I get the message "No downloads for this session" when I try to locate the video.

Thank you SolarEagle

I had found that website, but for some reason Version 5 won't install in Firefox. Reading down further I note many others have the same problem.

Maybe I have to wait until they fix it.

Thanks SolarEagle

The previous version of DownloadHelper doesn't work in Firefox 36, one option is to switch off update and use a previous version of Firefox, which I'm loath to do because of security.

I downloaded the free version of iSkysoft (although I try to avoid anything with an "i" prefix!). This will only do YouTube videos (unless you pay for the full version) and it is not as convenient.

I will wait for a few weeks and see if it's fixed, if not buy iSkysoft.

Was the update for security? I use chrome so am not familiar with FF, but I do notice a lot of the updates are for compatibility issues and certain bugs, a lot not really relevant to my use....anyway I always check what the update is for before I install it, why ask for trouble...So good luck with whatever you do...

Also, its usually best to report your own bug, even if others have already seemingly done that. It encourages firms to attach more importance to the problem(s).

I am using FF36 on Ubuntu 14.10 with no problems as you describe, but for example 14.10 is not as stable as 12.xx, 0r 13.xx or even 14.04 was....If anyone here is thinking of changing....

I get occasional strange problems with my LAN, WLAN and USB 2.0 and 3.0 problems....

(I mentioned the problems on an Ubuntu web site and they deleted my post!!!! Probably because I had said I was maybe going back to Windoze!!!)

Which is sort of part of the reason I am going back to Win 7 sp1....

Also, there is software that I want to run that is only Windows Vista or later compatible..... though I may try installing "Wine" (Windoze simulation under Ubuntu) first......but for me, its not second nature to install software good....

Marking as Off Topic as most of it is.....

you can use another browser or you can save movies by using movie downloader like en.savefrom.net

Tontmech:

I have the same problem. But my fix (temporary, as I definitely want it fixed better!) is to kill Firefox via the process tab in the program manager (so that it will come back up in open tab recovery mode). This seems to start the list of movies or whatever that are in queue to do a normal download. THEN when I check the download directory, I find what I was looking for. I also not that I cannot clear the list of downloaded files until that restart of Firefox. It's a lousy fix, but it does work. So for now, I'll continue to use this answer, while I wait for FVD to get fixed.
