LED Street Lamp Question

02/28/2015 1:22 PM

Hi! , can you please help me this: I have a road of 30m wide, the pole to pole distance is 50m, and the height of the pole is 8m. How can I get the illumination in lumens, the efficiency (lm/watt) and power of the LED Street lamp to be used, having only these information? Please if you have any document that can help me, The street light poles are double poles placed at the center of the road.

I'm curious if you were given this assignment without any in-class preparation or supporting material.

No. You do not provide enough information.

Did you notice the CR4 homework policy?

Fred, FRED!

Silly goose!

In order for one to notice the CR4 homework policy, one would have to read the CR4 Rules of Conduct and the CR4 FAQs.

That would mean wasting time on useless rules when all the student wants is the answer to the assignment.

Rules, FAQs, and in-class preparation all take time away Grand Theft Auto and Game of Thrones.

I know, I know. My comments are an exercise in futility. A senior student so well practiced at retaining nothing will not listen to my scolding. However, by posting the homework rule I can hope other members will let this thread go unanswered.

Maybe the poster should read the assignment and the materials first.

Street lighting system

03/01/2015 12:55 AM

Thank you @solarEagle, by sending some documents about Street lighting system, my question is the way how to calculate the illumination of LED Street lamp. For instance, Look at this formula : E=(LL*CU*MF) /(S*W) Where; LL = Lamp Lumen CU = Coefficient of Utilization MF = Maintenance Factor S = Spacing between poles W = Roadway Width E = Average illuminance If you look at this formula the data I have is S and W only. The required lamp lumen have to be found, Now my question is, how calculate LL having only S & W? In addition, CU & MF are the ranges. From these ranges what values do I use.? Also, if you want to find the wattage of the LED lamp or any lamp, you have to know the efficacy (lumen per watts) which range from 60 to 170 for Led lamp. What value of efficacy I have to use from 60 - 170?

The light manufacturers should provide the lighting characteristics for each design of commercial lighting fixture and model....This will include width and depth of light cone of illuminance...and lumens or candela range at particular height....You must then determine your fixture type and wattage to suit the design needs such as 1 lumen per square meter minimum, as well as the maximum directly under the light....The height specified does not limit the arm extension that can be used to better position the light over the road for maximum efficiency....

seems like a run way airport--the road you mean? It depends on what activity and purpose of lighting you want to have with your design.
