WAM-V is much cooler than your dinghy

Posted January 22, 2007 4:07 PM

From SCI FI Tech:

This crazy looking boat is the WAM-V, which stands for Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel. It's a tricked-out catamaran that can be configured in a number of ways depending on what it's being used for. It holds the crew up out of the water, keeping them above all the bumps they would feel if they were riding right in the waves. This provides a much smoother ride than traditional boats that have their hulls half underwater. The pylons allow the boat to navigate very shallow waters, as they don't sink too deep into the blue. This thing can handle all sorts of uses, from pleasure boat to marine ambulance to scuba platform to oceanographic study station.

Has anyone studied the ability of this vessel to be used in really high seas and bad weather? I'd be interested in hearing from a marine engineer.

Hmm. It's too wide for the locks on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation and would never go under the bridge at Paper Mill Lock...
