Breakthroughs in Exoskeletons have not been properly appreciated or applied.

Space Elevators are held back by carbon nanotube development.

That's the stuff I know enough to look for.

The compact plasma rocket in this news story could make space travel more feasible. Imagine getting to Mars in 40 days! http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/01/07/tech-space-plasma-rocket-nautel.html

That might change a few things.

Thanks artsmith,

If there is so much power to the thing, why not have it spin a living quarters with some gravity walls to walk on, or have sex in, or hold your bones together.

Water walls are supposed to hold off the Cosmic Rays.

Happy days!

Can we use it to fight asteroids?

Do Bhankiii and Rhabe know of this?

You guys get off your dream trip and come back down to earth.

The real technologies to watch are two. First is energy technology that affects all of us in some way greater or smaller.

The second one will affect all of us big time and you'd best pay attention.

"Do it yourself" weapons technology. A world where every individual (and not just a few trained animals) has the potential to become a WMD with the right programming or brainwashing. Best we experienced engineers not talk about this in specifics. The less those nut cases know the better. But it is a force to be reconned with. Just ask the US military about this.

Two energy technologies worth watching- mini nuclear power plants (i.e., the Toshiba project in Alaska) and ocean energy harvesting (wave and tidal, mostly- several active projects working today).
