IP Network Powers IoT Connected LEDs

Posted August 07, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

The rapid proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) is prompting diverse companies to come together to create new platforms and solutions for the IoT. Consequently, Ethernet giant Cisco Technology has partnered with lighting titan Cree to produce LEDs for IoT. As a result, the partners will bring together Cree's SmartCast Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology and Cisco's digital ceiling framework to enable powering LEDs in the network. The result is significant savings in energy. The new lighting solution will be available in this quarter.

So, typical "tech" reporting. Is the net actually going to power the LEDs? Completely unclear. Or is this another example of "powered by" (Microsoft, Android, Linux, Dell, ...) because apparently "controlled by" is accurate, but not studly enough?

The full article is much better. I doubt that the original author condensed it for the blurb herself, but that someone else took excerpts from it for placement here.

While I was there though, I came across this headline:

"Flexible Pressure Sensor is Bendable"

What???

Probably not all that weird. I saw store today that was selling Peruvian chicken Pollo.

In case you don't speak that much Spanish chicken is Pollo. So I guess a bendable sensor that is flexible makes sense, but maybe only if you're not an English speaker first.
