Give Me Sustainable Steam Heat

Posted January 14, 2010 8:05 AM

When one prominent US door and window manufacturing firm needed a new way to produce up to 100,000 lb/hr of steam, they turned to mechanical engineers to design and develop an environmentally friendly, energy efficient system. The resulting $22 million steam-generating facility allows the manufacturer to make all of its own steam and heat from renewable energy sources. Consisting in part of a warm-water recovery system which pumps 60 F condenser cooling water in from a nearby canal, the new sustainable plant is able to reduce its steam load by up to 30,000 lb/hr.

Bravo!

Reducing waste is the way to go!

I feel better when my tax dollars are used to encourage efficiency improvement initiatives by finding real financial advantages rather than when it is used to pay for new energy producing installation green or not.

We can go a long way with the energy that is presently available. Just reduce waste and we can still grow quite a lot.
