World's Oldest, Priciest Camera Hits Auction Block

A daguerreotype camera from 1839 signed by its namesake, Jacques Mande Daguerre, is up for auction and could go for as much as $985,000. Daguerrotype cameras are the great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfathers of the devices we use for snapshots today.

I'm going to write someone I know at the George Eastman House. I'd sure like to see it end up there. If you are ever in Rochester New York, I highly recommend a visit to the George Eastman House. They well may have a photograph made with this camera.

It would be nice to match the historical camera with whatever surviving photos were made with it.
