Cloud-Creating Laser Could Trigger Rain On Demand

Posted May 03, 2010 9:16 AM

From Gizmodo:

German scientists, working in a controlled lab environment, have successfully used a laser to create clouds. The next step is a simple one: Use this technology to create clouds and rain on demand in the skies over Germany.

The atmosphere in the container was saturated when the laser was activated. This ain't gonna work if the laser is aimed into a region of dry air that is far from saturation. Good grief.

Reminds me of an oldie but a goodie:

After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skies over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder men had never heard
Like the scream and the sound of a Red Laser bird

Ten, twenty, thirty, forty inches or more
Of rain from the sky, we're sure gettin' sore
Ol' Tornado tried to end that spree
Of the Ruby Red Laser of Germany

With thanks and apologies to The Royal Guardsmen, Snoopy versus the Red Baron , as well as member Tornado.

Let's assume the thing will produce rain on demand... how do you shut the rain off? Will it continue to propogate after turning the equipment off? HAARP comes to mind.

This reminds me of the "local vapor cloud" when a jet airplane breaks the sound barrier.

If the lasers can cause a local acceleration of that magnitude in free atmosphere.

Then the concern might be tornado's.

Just before tornado's there is often hale.

This acceleration has been demonstrated to be caused by lasers, sound, ... concentrated energy.

I have seen rain clouds disperse, why not make the moisture coalesce about a focus point.
