Artificial Clouds That Could Stop Climate Change Receive Investment From Bill Gates

Posted May 12, 2010 8:34 AM

From Gizmodo:

Rather than plunge money in a couple of girlfriends his daughter's age, Bill Gates' retirement money sure is being put to good use, with his most recent investment being in machines that turn seawater into climate-changing artificial clouds.

Look on the bright side. With cloudy skies you need not open your Windows so often.

Your both on the right track. It is cloud computing and it is intended to make Windows obsolete.

Ok bad joke. I am good for another few minutes before another comes to mind.

No slight intended, but I read this one in the papers a few weeks back, and in E&T magazine at least a year ago. Ta all the same for bringing it up, I was on the verge of doing so but it's blogger type stuff.

The bit the intrigued me (from my recent read) was the legal aspect; The clouds may be short lived, but what if they drift over somebody elses back yard ? Out in the ocean - fine......what if some wierdo country did it next to neighbours. On a totally unrelated theme, I seem to recall N Korea having plans for river diversion .

Nah, small scale testing gets my vote. What's to lose. Haven't read the link yet, but there are other schemes to chuck more iffy stuff into the atmosphere to get the same effect.

What climate change? When Global Warming was all the rage, despite it being a political movement, at least there was a sense of direction. But climate change? I wish someone would define what is changing, how it is changing and what is so bad if it does change.

If Bill Gates wants to spew seawater into the air more power to him, but at least he could explain to those of us still working on our first billion what he is doing. The only benefit I can see is that he will be creating jobs in the shipyard which is more than the current administration is doing.
