Lucas Threatens Wicked 'Lightsaber' Maker

Lucas made millions of dollars ripping off the ideas of real science fiction writers like Robert Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov and others, and ripped-off the cinematographic ideas of the early movie serial makers to create his 'Star Wars' series, much of which was pretty lame and half-baked.

So now his panties are in a wad about something that 'looks' like it might be a 'light saber'? He needs to stuff himself.

Are you so simple that you cannot form your own opinions of a movie and have to resort to others opinions to bolster your thought process? If you do not enjoy the movies say so maybe give your reasons. Do not bother refering to the random ranting of another as evidence that your opinions are valid.

The review I linked above de-constructed the movie "The Phantom Menace" in a way that ought to be studied by film schools. The guy obviously spent hundreds of hours on research and probably dozens of hours filming his analysis, which he then pared down to 70 minutes. He narrated his review in a brilliant style, pretending to sound like a doofus while skewering Lucas; sort-of implying that any dolt could see how bad this movie is.

I do have my own opinion of the movie: It stunk; it was stupid, embarrassing and racist. But to get a better idea of why it was stupid, embarrassing and racist (and bad in many other ways) watch the linked review.

I watched the link you posted, and the 90 minute one covering Episode 2 and a very small part of 3. No real surprise there (except some of the non-Star Wars related humour was a little strange to say the least). Most if not all the points he made were valid and I would argue not just someones "personal" opinion, a lot of the first three movies (episode 1, 2, 3) just plain didn't make sense (be it taken alone as a stand-alone movie, referenced forward to the previously-made movies episodes 4, 5, 6, or taking into account all the star Wars franchise - movies, books, etc).

And did it well.

I enjoyed the first three Star Wars movies (episode 4, 5, 6) immensely and went to watch all three new movies (1, 2, 3) with an open mind but many of the comments made by the reviewer in the deconstruction were things I noticed WHILE watching it for the very first time.

Still we are entitled to our opinions, watching these once was enough for me, as was the remakes of episodes 4, 5 and 6 (lets not get into these either).

I will remember Star Wars as it should be remembered, by the original movies - episodes 4, 5 and 6 thank you very much.

I should add a warning that the review linked above should be rated PG-13 due to strong language.

I have one on order and have received notice of the inclusion of the safety lock which boils down to a delay in shipping.

There is an option to purchase without the safety if you can prove you are with law enforcement or a "scientist", which led me to wonder what a scientist I.D. card looks like.

I just hope it is not a scam.

I don't believe Mr. Lucas holds a copyright on the very concept of a stylized handheld tube from which visible light is emitted on one or both ends.

His raison d'etre of wringing every last cent out of his creatively-bankrupt "empire" has become an embarrassment.

After having a close look at the specs for this it is nothing more than a laser pointer with a output power limited to less than 1W!

The manufacturer, Hong Kong-based Wicked Lasers, proudly tells you on its Web site that it is "the most dangerous laser ever created.

Seems to be nothing more than marketing BS (perhaps they should have said "the most futuristic and dangerous-looking blue laser pointer ever". On a side note, it is huge for a laser pointer, almost the size of......a Star wars light sabre.

George may very well have a point (with regards to copyright infringement), but that still doesn't give him the right to the two greatest crimes committed in a single movie (The Phantom Menace) -

1) Most unrealistic space combat sequence

2) Jar Jar BINKS!!!!

Yes I am a fan of Star wars, just not episodes 1-3.

If you haven't seen the review I linked in my previous comment, I strongly recommend it. Not only is it brilliant in its analysis of the many failures of TPM, but it's hilarious, too. The whole review is about 70 minutes, but it's broken into a series of roughly 10-minute segments, which makes it easier to view at your leisure.

I read this report...then I read it again. I am missing what the purpose of this laser was manafactured for. I would be impressed if this was pulled out during a power point presentation...but the poor person in the front row may loose an arm if the laser is not properly used. As for the legal issues Lucas should donate the money he throws to his legal team to charity...retired storm troopers would be a good start.....maybe Harrison Ford could use some money he has not made any good movies in a while.
