Posted July 15, 2010 8:04 AM

From Boing Boing:

The insane geniuses at Evil Mad Scientist Labs have put together a roundup of their favorite tools for working with electronics: " In this roundup we've collected some handy--and even important --tools along that you might not have seen before, along with some best-of-breed versions of everyday electronics tools." This is like a painter getting a look at Rembrandt picks for best brushes, paints and canvasses.

What are you talking about ? This is just the regular stuff, included in any decent tool kit, I've used them for decades !

Don't know who marked #3 OT, but they obviously haven't done much servicing work on old electronics (where unless you have a dental mirror, an endoscope or a very intelligent mouse, checking some of the part numbers, connections etc. sometimes means a major strip-down).

Also missing is the padded foam "back cover", so when you inadvertantly brush against several KV DC, whatever you launch into behind you will not injure you as much.

Another thing I keep in my tool wrap is a couple of lengths of piano wire, about 0.7mm dia., and as long as I can fit in.

With a tweak here & there, these can be turned into all sorts of useful tools & prodding things. Just the job for pulling a wire from a bundle in a loom, or retrieving an M3 washer lodged where it shouldn't be. Slip a bit of silicone rubber sleeving over it and it can make a wonderful meter probe for inaccessible areas. Short lengths can be cut off for probing e.g. ribbon cable connectors.
