Which Words Does Google Instant Blacklist?

Posted September 29, 2010 8:49 AM

From CNN.com - Technology:

Some folks at the Hacker publication 2600 decided to compile a list of words that are restricted by Google Instant. Except in extreme and special cases, Google is known for anything but censorship, but as we've said before, there are some terms the web giant's new instant search feature won't work with.

The law of unintended consequences kicks in on one of the archery websites where any discussion about the cock fletching gets censored!
(The cock flight is the odd coloured one which sits perpendicular to the string when you are putting the arrow on the string, or nocking it as we say)

What a non-story! This auto-complete filtering algorithm effects google instant only, not the main google search engine. All anyone has to do is press enter and get on with their lives in the small event your search is not answered with a link after only entering a couple of letters. I for one welcome the obvious need for filtering as the last thing your 6 year old daughter needs to see is a link to a porn site when she was just trying to find out about penguins.

It ain't rocket science people, just how flip-en lazy are we going to get!

You know what they say about male penguins with big feet don't you!

All the better to keep the kids of the ice.

Roger Pink will certainly want to know why your daughter was trying to find out about penguins! Was she investigating their retractable fangs?
