Chilean Miners Rescued Amid Global Celebrations

The first of 33 miners trapped deep underground in Chile for a record 10 weeks triumphantly tasted freedom on Wednesday, triggering nationwide celebrations and media mayhem. A powerful light danced across the chilly night sky and hand-held horns blared when 31-year-old Florencio Avalos stepped out of a special steel cage, breathing fresh air into his lungs for the first time in 69 days.

Yup indeed a good advert for engineers and engineering too (if only we could prove the original problem was due to accountants or politicians)
Nice to have some good news for a change.
I'd love to be in a Chilean bar tonight!

Maybe they could use the mine to store unwanted politicians/bankers/England footballers/"celebrities" etc. It could be a new TV series. "I'm a banker, get me out of here"

Think about the global altruism demonstrated in the literal world-wide focus on this happy cirucmstance. It seems like alturism an order of magnitude or three more than the "selfish gene" would "allow" in a purely adaptive sense. What do you think?
