NEC Just Found a Super Fast Way to Convert Analog to HD, Hooray!

NEC Japan has developed a way to convert standard analog video imagery to HD that's 17 times faster than any regular method that's currently available. Just one hour of video can be converted to HD in a matter of 10 hours. Just so you know, if you're new to this, it would usually take about a month for the same length of video. Now that's a long wait. This new method will also be able to sharpen old and foggy or grainy images captured on non-HD security cameras if need be.

Well if by "standard analog video imagery" you mean film then fine, they have a faster digitization technique.

If they're talking about VHS tape then it smells like snake oil to me.

Resolution requires information, where is all this new information coming from?

Notice how the article fails to link to any authoritative source, not even NEC.

It seems the additional information is coming adjacent temporal frames to improve spatial resolution. Very compute intensive process. (Thanks Roger Pink for the link!)
