Go Pee on Your Cell Phone

Posted November 10, 2010 8:54 AM

From Neatorama:

Why? Do you really need a reason? Well, in this case, it may a useful activity. There's a new chip available that can be used by mobile devices to diagnose sexually transmitted diseases: People who suspect they have been infected will be able to put urine or saliva on to a computer chip about the size of a USB chip, plug it into their phone or computer and receive a diagnosis within minutes, telling them which, if any, sexually transmitted infection (STI) they have.

At the trial my lawyer said:

"He wasn't sexting, your Honor. He was checking for diabetes. He simply dialed the wrong number afterward."

I can hear it now, the new pick line in singles bars. "I'll lick your phone, if you'll lick mine."

This is just the first of MANY such USB plugable sensors that will use cell phones to convey information. I expect a life saver will be an electronic nose that detects foul meat and rotten milk. Let's kick around some other suggestions. Could you use the camera for a spectrograph if you added a prism or a grating? Could you read RFID tags with it?

My Nexus One currently uses in built sensors to double as metal detector (magnetic compass), heart rate monitor(LED plus camera), remote ruler (camera plus trig), acoustic spectral analyzer(microphone plus software).
