Posted November 15, 2010 7:00 AM

Now it is possible for sports fans everywhere to hear everything said by any single player in a stadium, thanks to Norwegian physicists who invented the AudioScope and tested it at basketball games and soccer matches. Undoubtedly, sports fans around the globe would love to hear heated conversations between a player and coach or between a player and a ref, some players are not too enthused. What do you think?

Only a very sick person would like to overhear other persons' conversation without them knowing about it. Such a person is due for the psyche ward.

I could not help but overhear what you were saying to the group...

In the example given the athletes are performers, and they want the whole world to watch them (as well as buy a ticket). This is why American baseball players use secret hand signals to each other. This is why basketball and football teams use cryptic names for plays and formations. The opposing teams have ALWAYS been trying to gather information about upcoming plays. Part of the game. Should fans be able to listen in? They paid their shekles, why not?

According to your muddled ethics, as it seems to me, I must be such a "sick person due for the psyche ward", since I would dearly LOVE to hear every word spoken in the heat of the battle on the field. It would immensely enhance the sense of reality and the completeness of the (TV-viewer's) experience.

As Doorman accurately pointed out: it's all part of the game, so if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Besides: the awareness that their every word is being overheard would greatly contribute to the players ethical behaviour in the field.

Ha, ha! Kind of funny. For those aware of the karmic law, all your thoughts -- much less what you say -- are recorded. If "one" were going to be influenced by becoming aware that one might be overheard by others, just imagine how behaviors might change if one became aware that everything about you is being recorded and is reviewed after you leave this body. All our actions have reactions -- thus rebirth, to reap the fruits of both good and bad actions, thoughts, etc. -- the trap called the "Wheel of 84" in eastern terminology. That exists but most of us aren't aware of it. It is the reason many things in our lives seem as if they "had to happen," and no matter what, couldn not be avoided or changed. When the deepest "you" grows tired of this "coming and going" something begins to awaken in you to look for a way out. Until then, it's "eat, drink and be merry." Even for those of a religious bent, it is generally understood that life is meant for sensual enjoyment. Belief often has little to do with reality. This is something to be investigated -- not only believed.

Gosh! Perhaps naïevely, I thought we were talking TECHNICAL possibilities and their consequences, not theological...
