South Korea Opens Power Plant Using Animal Waste

Posted March 14, 2007 1:55 PM

From Seed Magazine: (No longer posted on site)

South Korea Wednesday opened its first domestic-designed power plant using animal waste for fuel as part of efforts to provide a new source of evironmentally friendly energy, officials said. The 30-kilowatt plant in Icheon, 60 kilometers (36 miles) southeast of Seoul, can process 20 tons of animal waste a day, the ministry of commerce, energy and industry said. "There are several small power plants using animal waste for fuel, which were built by foreign firms, but this is our first indigenously designed plant," ministry official Choi Byung-Dal told AFP.

Great idea. The fuel source is one that most pet owners would be happy to "donate".

That certainly is an improvement over when I was there in the 50's and a war was going on. The animal and human waste was an important need for the rice paddies. I am impressed with the progress that has taken place in Korea. Other countries could prosper as well if they had good government Korean goverment may not be perfect but at least it has inproved the condition of its people.. The Philippines is still a country of extremely poor people with their major export people to work in other countries. What is the future of the US with its present government?? Poor at best.
