Plasma brings fusion closer

Posted March 14, 2007 2:24 PM

From The Engineer:

A project by University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers claims to have overcome a barrier to plasma research, bringing the possibility of fusion energy a step closer. The research team, headed by electrical and computer engineering professor David Anderson and research assistant John Canik, investigated the Helically Symmetric eXperiment (HSX). The HSX is a magnetic plasma chamber called a stellarator, which can overcome a major barrier in plasma research, by which stellarators lose too much energy to reach the high temperatures needed for fusion.

Indeed. If they can pull this off who needs solar ?

HI !

IT looks like there are many steps to create fusion, there was a groupe in phili that created cold fusion but it could not be duplicated by other groups to prove its feasibility. i remember science magazine had a special on the subject but i did not find out the conclusion of the tests. I know they were close, the groupe used sound harmics to increase the tempature very quickly and cause a plasma base to further extend the fusion reaction. is there any one out there that has the full story on this subject?

HI !

WELL I Guess there is no one to share the info on extending the cold fision reaction process, i did some checking, and there is some one in masachutes at m.i.t. tring to extend the reaction process but i guess they don't want to share it until they get a pattent on it.
