Does Your HVAC Vendor Specialize?

Posted November 24, 2010 9:00 AM by Steve Melito

The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) is an international association that certifies companies, qualifies technicians, and maintains standards for the testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) of HVAC systems. From its headquarters in Maryland, NEBB administers 28 chapters across the United States, Canada, and Australia. It also certifies firms in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Last month, NEBB released two years' worth of data about NEBB-certified companies. The results indicate that HVAC vendors are becoming increasingly specialized, offering services such as building commissioning, retro-commissioning, fume hood testing, and cleanroom performance testing. Since 2009, there has been a 10% decrease in general HVAC services and a 12% rise in specialty HVAC services.

Have you seen evidence of this trend yourself?

The Boynton Beach HVAC Contractors down here in Florida have seen a boom in construction lately. I am an estimator and all these retrofit jobs require TAB no matter the size of work done for the most part. Even minor work done, new grilles, etc downstream of VAV boxes still requires some test and balance.
