Most "Broadband" Connections are No Such Thing

Posted December 15, 2010 8:59 AM

From Geeks are Sexy Technology News:

According to the Federal Communications Commission, the majority of American "broadband" users are not actually receiving broadband speed. That's because the FCC currently defines broadband as requiring a download speed of at least 4Mbps and an upload speed of 1Mbps. In total, 68 percent of broadband connections in the US fall short of this speed.

When electric "light" was not almost universally available as it is today and there was a generated power surplus, a part of the energy was distributed in the form of [calcium] carbide for lighting. Today we have ADSL in an analog function. The real thing, optic cable, is available on our street but it is kept too expensive. So I go on using "carbide". Season's greetings Snel

There is actually no such thing as Fibre optic internet for computers, Just like an eight inch water main that has to go through a 1 inch line, after that the max pressure is a 1 inch line even if it goes back to 8 inches. There are no fibre optic links from the street to the house, and no computers have fibre optic connections, the moment it hits the copper baby its all over, copper cannot carry fibre optic speed at any point, sure fibre optics make more traffic room in the main line, but no (domestically available) computer can receive uninerrupted fibre optic communication to the actual system board.

Its like building a bonfire under a thimble and expecting huge amounts of hot water, nothing will make the thimble hold more water, and nothing can make copper carry fibre optic speed or parrallel handling abilities, and you can't go back to fibre optics once it hits the copper, it won't speed back up again.
