What Should You Get Gearheads for Christmas?

Posted December 21, 2010 8:30 AM by CarDomain

I've always felt that car parts make the best gifts. And this is true - mostly. But we also need tools, fluids, storage, lighting, equipment, beer, and all the other things that make our automotive hobby enjoyable. So what do you get the car fiends on your list, and what do you yourself most want to find under the tree?

Forget the hokey car-detailing kits and the redundant "Illustrated History of Automaker X" coffee table books that we've all already scrounged out of the Barnes & Noble bargain section. Car people need items they'll actually use and enjoy. So what should we give (and get)? We canvassed friends and threw together a quick list.

  1. Car parts
  2. Consumables
  3. Vintage dealership literature, relevant magazines, and original shop manuals
  4. Race tickets
  5. Tools
  6. Gift certificates – for the junkyard
  7. Go the whole hog, and get them a car.

What do you think? And what would you add?

8. Storage items, like cupboards.

9. An air compressor.

10. Posters.

11. A beer fridge.

12. A parts washer.

13. A stereo.

14. Heat.

Anything else that would make my stay pleasurable should I get thrown out of the house.

I'd say get them a 50A20 Stainless Steel Sprocket.

Then they'll have that rare item that's hard to find.

you cant go wrong with the simple things like shop rags, break cleaner, penetrating oil, starting fluid, hand cleaner. a good working second hand computer is very nice to have in the garage, cuts down on your wife yelling at you from getting grease on the rug. a gift card to a parts store,or to summit or jeggs.A new snap-on calender is a must. I my self would like all of the above as I bought my self a 1952 Willy's M38 A-1. for my x-mas gift. Have a safe and happy holiday.
