Counterfeiters Will Be Out Of a Job if Banknotes Go Electronic

Posted December 23, 2010 8:53 AM

From Gizmodo:

Nevermind that banknotes are less than a millimeter thick, they're soon going to be stamped with electronic circuits for yet another anti-counterfeit measure. The notes will be traceable thanks to the semiconducting organic molecules, potentially putting a stop to bank-heists.

Counterfeiters Will Be Out Of a Job if Banknotes Go Electronic

Are you suggesting computer hackers are or can not be counterfeiters

Maybe counterfeiters will adjust, and begin to con people into purchasing keyboards or monitors coated with Anti-Breeze solution.

If it can be made then it can be copied. I'll grant the author that adding this new layer of technology does make it more complicated and expensive to copy a banknote but copies can still be made.

Is this really about counterfeiters, or more likely, a way for government to see who is holding cash......and if so, how much? Why? Where did it come from? etc........

I think the latter is far more likely.

As usual I am completely puzzled by this type of 'problem solving' thinking.

But I guess it could be "German" and "Japanese" "scientists" way to get a "trunk full of money" for "testing".

However; the 'electronic' tracking still means you have to get your hands on the cash to read it. This presumably is via 'note counters' in banks etc - or maybe they have in mind a retailer reader (you can buy on the Net for $100) (then download the keygen).

Given the notes are already encoded serially - why not read that 'hard copy' number?

It would also show up forgeries using an existing, or future, or destroyed, or same serial number.

Perhaps the authorities were/are just too disorganized to record such data - if so - this won't work either. Not even when all notes are 'new'.

Or maybe, they are so technically ignorant that they still wonder how their mail finds them.
