Homeopathy's Ineffectiveness Saves Lives

Posted February 09, 2011 10:13 AM

From Discovery News - Top Stories:

Hundreds of people owe their lives to the fact that homeopathy is completely ineffective. This past weekend, groups of people around the world participated in an event that, at first glance, may seem sinister or even cult-like. They gathered in 25 countries (in an event known as "The 10:23 Campaign") and took massive overdoses of medication -- not to harm themselves, but to prove a point. No one suffered ill effects because the medications were homeopathic, have no active ingredients, and are therefore worthless. Real drugs of proven efficacy can be dangerous or lethal in high enough doses; homeopathic remedies cannot.

That is the beauty of homeopathic meds, as one of my medical mentors once said.

That is also why you will not find a serious clinical study for these things, too.

In the spirit of celebrating homeopathy, I only read the first word of the article.

Did you hear about the homeopahty practitioner that stopped taking his meds completely? He died of an overdose.

What nonsense this is ....... water has memory?!? This is the proposed theory that explains how a potion that has zero molecules of the original active substance is suposed to retain some effect.

If you want to do some reading on the subject, past the first few words that is, try here.

There was a look at homeopathy on CBC's Marketplace recently: they couldn't find any ingredients in the samples at all. One 'remedy' couldn't be distinguished from another. But the govt of Ontario has recently moved to 'license' homeopathy practitioners.

After all, you wouldn't want some unqualified homeopathist giving you the wrong little bottle...
