Even Ferrari is Going Green

Posted March 04, 2011 8:30 AM by CarDomain

The new 458 Italia is likely to be offered with Ferrari's HELE system (High Emotion, Low Emissions), a technology package pioneered last year on the Ferrari California that the automaker claimed reduced emissions by up to 23% in real-world driving conditions.

HELE ups efficiency and reduces power loss by incorporating features such as a brushless cooling fan, electronic a/c compressor, fuel-pump control, and a stop/start feature at stationary idle. In the California in automatic mode, the computer even adapts shift points to current driving conditions and driver behavior, optimizing both engine responsiveness and fuel conservation.

Ferrari is expected to announce at the Geneva Auto Show which aspects of HELE will be adapted to the 458 Italia.

A great idea from Ferrari, but as they don't make so many of these sports cars it won't help much with cutting down the CO2 overall. To do this you would have to incorperate all of these inovations into all the cars in the world, not just Ferrari's!
